Round and round in circles
After two weekends out of town and away from running shoes, Saturday meant a return to longer marathon runs. Unfortunately, Friday saw an unexpected return to my old habit of getting completely plastered on a Friday night and Saturday morning was cloudier than a late night jazz club pre-smoking ban, so the run got postponed.
Apparently marathon runners must use their weekend run to build up stamina – ie their ability to plod on endlessly, while shorter weekday runs concentrate on speed and ‘cardio-vascular’ fitness. My previous long runs were around an hour, so this time I aimed crank it up by half an hour and see how it hurt. Unfortunately, I don’t have much to report. Not too much pain – that could be because that you can run round Blackheath and Greenwich Park on the grass and largely avoid knee crunching pavement. One interesting finding was that the LCD Sound System’s Sound of Silver album made a better to run to than Led Zep III – more driven, ravier if you like.
