Anger on the streets
Two horrifying and unexpected events hit the headlines today that on closer inspection may actually be connected. The news that a (hissing and smoking) bomb was found in Central London has spread around the world, and has once more raised the spectre of terrorism in our complacent London hearts.
Personally, I’ve been more saddened by the news that Fopp has closed down. The chain of Scottish music shops had become like my second home: oft have I lain my drowsy head on their soft pillows. Perhaps not quite a second home, but it has become my favourite place to purchase music. Fopp’s closure has left their employees not only unemployed, but also unpaid and unsurprisingly rather angry.
Surely it’s not too much of a leap of the imagination to assume that the bomb was left by a disgruntled ex-fopper? Afterall, the vehicle was found when the driver crashed into some bins and ran off, after he was apparently distracted by smoke pouring out of the boot. Such a cack-handed effort at terrorism was surely planned using the Anarchist’s Cookbook bought at Fopp for Â?1.
