DIY and reddish hues
Ennui and DIY
I’ve discovered why I’ve been feeling so gloomy recently – now I’ve pretty much reached the most unhappy period of my life. Statistically that is.
Research into feelings of wellbeing and its relation to age released last week that men in their middle age are the most miserable gits in the land. The survey counts the years 35-44 as middle aged, which includes me as one of these gloomy unfortunates. We middle aged’ men are even more morose than hormone-sodden teenagers and grumpy old men.
As we spend most of our time at work, I reckon the cause of this unhappiness is most probably not too hard to isolate – the drudgery of the modern office. The good news is I think I’ve got the cure – shelves. Last week I put up a shelf, and the warm glow of satisfaction from this simple task outshone the completion of virtually any work related job. My advice is to head off down to your nearest hardware shop get ready to drill.
Pinky
Scientists at the University of Newcastle have come to the conclusion that women may be hardwired to prefer pink, or at least redder colours. The biologists hypothesised that the reason for this rosy hued preference is that it would allow them pick out reddish, ripe fruit against a background of green vegetation.
It all sounds a bit sketchy, especially as both genders apparently take the same amount of time to spot different colours. The study left me thinking – does this mean that women prefer pink polka dots to plain pink. After all, berries similar to polka dots. Perhaps pink or red dots on green is the fabric that most ladies are hardwired to prefer?
