Maps

Since I signed up to the Edinburgh Marathon, people have been very generous with tips and suggestions, not to mention remarks like ‘why?’. Check out these useful running map sites like Gmaps Pedometer which allows you to to map out your run on Google Maps and gives you the distance of your trek (in miles), while MapMyRun has runs already mapped out and saved by other running types. Then I managed to find a bicycle version of MapMyRun - Bikely.com. Of course with both these sites, if you can’t find a run/ride near you, then do it yourself!

Then someone sent out this excruciating video of a couple of women trying to finish an Iron Man competition. It was too much for me: I had to have breaks while watching it and even then couldn’t finish it. Incidentally, the term Iron Man slightly underplays the extreme nature of the event, but I suppose heat-treated beta alloy titanium man doesn’t really roll off the tongue in quite the same way. These Iron People have to swim two and a half miles, ride their bikes 110 miles (roughly an etape of the Tour de France) and then run a marathon. All that without stopping or dying. Finally I’ve also been recommended a book: Marathon: From Start to Finish by Sam Murphy, it’s meant to be a great for all those foolish enough to marathon.
