More cricket mania

I’m not really the sporty type, and definitely not a cricket type, but over the last two days I’ve become slightly obsessed with a lesser known piece of cricketing history: the first ever international cricket game. It all started yesterday at work when I had to research the Scottish football team and found on wikipedia that the first international football match was held between Scotland and England in 1872. Somehow, this lead to discovering that the first ever international cricket game was between the unlikely adversaries of Canada and the United States, and further that there was no wiki page on this event.

My natural response (naturally geeky) was to write the page myself. I did a bit of google searching on the subject and found a page on each of the main two cricket sites: Cricinfo.com and CricketArchive.com. Using these sources I composed the current wiki page - United States v Canada (1844). It’s been interesting, as well as learning about the game I’ve also found out about putting in references, tables and various types of links.

Perhaps my new found interest in sport is not so odd, after all it’s not so much the sport that interests me as the history…
