Saatchi and Gaucho II

Mr Porteous seemed to be wearing a pained expression when talking to us, but it was probably just me. It took about an hour and a half to run through everyone’s ideas, and I thoroughly enjoyed it. There were lots of good ideas and a few quite crazy bad ones. It was interesting to see where peoples’ of thought had converged – a few people did feet making hand signals, five did blank spaces where the consumer was invited to add their own content, some even did a thing where the shoe was a brush/thing to make art with. We were told that although some of the executions could have been stronger, the thinking behind them was good. Ours qualified there I think.

We then retired to The Pregnant Man, the Saatchi Pub, for a few ales. Before leaving the room I half-inched a Saatchi pad – would look good next to the phone I thought, and then on the way I spotted a small drawing of what looked like a dracula, with reindeer horns bluetacked to the wall behind the CCTV near the lifts. It was strange – and a bit creative! The chat in the pub made me realise quite how hard it is to get into and advertising agency. Very. Everyone was much younger than me and living as students/in penury. Up near the loos was a print of the famous ‘pregnant man’ ad, and a jazzed up modern version with the man wearing a leather jacket, beret and shades.

Altogether it was interesting, inspiring and a little frightening .
