Put ‘Bloggers die’ into the New York Times search engine, and you come up with the curious story of the men who died from blogging. They were ‘tech bloggers’, who apparently work in the most frenzied, high pressure end of the blogosphere. Something I know little about, operating as I do down in the mellow murk of the irregularly updated, personal blog.

The NYT paints a picture of these poor harried souls as the new hacks, paid by the word or click. Perhaps it’s the credit crisis crunching down harder on the USA that drove these bloggers to work such lunatic hours, but fortunes have been made in the new media space, so it could be simple greed. Also, long working hours can become a habit; workohol is a very morish beverage.

Often when going to get a cuppa you realise that half the day’s dissappeared while you’ve been lost in the screen. There’s no doubt that computers and the internet can completely suck you in – and suck out your brain. These blokes might be the lastest cases of immersion to the point of completely losing contact with reality – world of warcraft style. Who next?
